Egypt's Mursi experiment is over. The new president Sisi formed a government and started to bring law and order for the people.The level of respect for personal freedom and opinion is still low, but safety is expected to become better.
Sinai Red Sea destinations in Egypt cannot be considered as safe for tourists. Dive centres and liveaboard operators on the Red Sea offer strong discounts just to cover the running cost.

The protest in the roads of Khartoum and Omdurman seems likely to expand to other cities. The economic motivation in the beginning in June (inflation reached 30 % p.a.) has been widened with the political outcry for more democracy.

New flight connection to Port Sudan every Monday.
Emirates offer flights from all continents to Dubai. The carrier FlyDubai leave Dubai after lunch (at 13.50 h) for Port Sudan, continues to Khartoum and back via Port Sudan by sunset (at 17.30 h) to arrive in Dubai at 18.40 h. Round trip costs less than AED 900.- which is approx. EUR 200.- per person.

Djibouti is calm and safe in these days of bad news from other destinations. The chance to dive with  whale sharks will decrease in May with higher water temperature.
Sana`a - Socotra or Kamaran island
From the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs we receive the following travel warning: "In considerazione dei violenti combattimenti che continuano a registrarsi in molte aree dello Yemen e della perdurante instabilità nella stessa capitale Sana’a, si sconsigliano assolutamente viaggi a qualsiasi titolo in tutto il Paese, inclusa l’isola di Socotra (in quanto, per arrivarvi, è obbligatorio lo scalo a Sana'a e a Mukalla)."
Same warning is valid for the Hodaydah airport, where you arrive from Sana'a for the transfer to Kamaran island.
